Home Sweet Home

I have had my fair share of moves. Moving in and moving out. All of these moves have had something special, a first: moving away from home, from my parents' house after graduation to start a new and exciting life as a student. Moving out of that flat share to avoid bitch fights. Had I only known that the flat share I was moving into was just as bitch fight friendly and much more nerve wracking... but I will tell you about all of that another time. Next came - who would have thought - moving back to my Mom's, to take a great but sparsely paid internship in Hamburg after I finished my Bachelor's degree. Then I moved out again, to the Ruhr area, to start my Master studies. After that I didn't actually move - as in "with the whole kit and caboodle" - but just relocated. To the States. Which was a whole special experience in itself. Then, of course, I came back, lived in Essen, moved back in with my Mom and sister, helped my sister move out, helped her move back in..... you see, it has been a continual coming and going and my Mom never hesitated to accomodate us again and again. And again.
But this past move, is something truly special. My sister and I moved out. For good. It is the first move of ours that is not a temporary solution at all, not limited to a certain amount of time and not trade-off of any kind. This is it. That growing up everyone keeps talking about. Starting out as a reasonable compromise - I wanted to move out and have my own place, but not spend too much money, while my sister just wanted to move from the countryside to the big city - we have found the apartment that we both can very well live with (it has a balcony!!!). Long story short: the move was fun and easy, our little place feels like a new home, and our Mom seems to be spending more time here than in her house. We've done everything right: Home is where the heart is.

Umzüge kann ich. Umzüge hatte ich genug. Einziehen, ausziehen, umziehen.
